Argentine novelist and short-story writer Martínez explores the mathematical thinking of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) in 13 essays he delivered at the Muse de Arte Latinamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA). He had read Borges since adolescence, he says, but not until he was asked to lecture on his mathematics did he notice the wealth of allusions, puzzles, reviews, and other mathematical elements in both his fiction and his essays. Among his topics are the short story as logical system, Euclid or the aesthetics of mathematical reasoning, the Pythagorean twins, literature and rationality, and God's sinkhole.
