Arguably, the vast majority of issues driving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are geographic in nature, involving questions of the border demarcations, Zionist colonial settlements in the Occupied Territories of the West Bank and Gaza, the control of natural resources, the physical presence of the so-called "separation" wall, land ownership, the establishment of Israeli communities over the erasure of Palestinian villages, the dispensation of the city of Jerusalem, and even matters of archaeology and preservation. This atlas, originally developed as a personal research project by an architecture student at Israel's Technion U., addresses these issues through the presentation of numerous maps and other graphics that provide a spatial-territorial perspective on the "creation of Israel in the light of the destruction of Palestine" as revealed by geographic representation of the past 100 years of Palestinian-Israeli history. Although the volume includes a "lexicon" that provides additional textual information on the history of the conflict, the lack of more extensive explanation of the maps unfortunately means that this atlas will prove most useful only to those already fairly familiar with the geographic issues involved in the conflict.
