This interesting monograph on early modern Shakespearean theater examines the costumes of original stage productions and explores the way in which meaning was conveyed to audiences through the use of socially significant clothing cues to communicate culturally meaningful information. The volume is arranged thematically and addresses such topics as sex and gender, social station and class, foreigners, religious affiliation, and political persuasion.
