In 1971, Alexander (U. of Utah) developed the core elements of Functional Family Therapy (FFT), a short-term, structured, intensive family intervention model for treating the challenging population of delinquent and substance-abusing adolescents. Following an introduction to the goals and tasks of each treatment phase, the authors discuss conceptual influences, research on variables that affect change, FFT adaptations for specific sub-populations, successful implementation, training and supervision. Includes diagrams of the model, case examples, and summaries of studies.
