Drawing on his more than three decades practicing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), Loncke presents a framework for understanding what AAC intervention does in the process of communication. Some interventions help a person formulate their thoughts into an utterance, he explains, while others are geared to find an alternative to natural speech.
