Biesele and Hitchcock take a fresh look at one of the most thoroughly anthropologically-profiled indigenous populations in the world, Ju/'hoan San, or Ju/'hoansi, of Namibia and Botswana. In the text, they describe how this group, formerly known as the "Bushmen," became a dynamic part of the birth of two nations in the wake of collapse of apartheid South Africa. Biesele is the director of the Kalahari Peoples Fund. Hitchcock is Professor of Geography and Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at Michigan State University, as well as Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
