Professionals in both fields provide epidemiological tools to behavioral scientists and behavioral context to epidemiologists in order to advance the field of public health. They focus on how the principles of human behavior as understood in sociology, psychology, and other disciplines can be applied to public health. Researchers can then use epidemiology to assess these behavior, and the outcome allows them to obtain the quantifiable data that are essential to justifying or developing any program or intervention.
