In June 1967, the Israeli Air Force and Navy killed 34 Americans in an attack on the USS Liberty. Since then, conspiracy theorists have continued to insist that the attack was not an accident. In this updated version of his 2002 book The Liberty Incident, author Cristol (law, University of Miami) offers six new chapters based on National Security Administration (NSA) interpretations of Israeli Air Force cockpit audiotapes and other recently declassified documents, showing that the incident was indeed a tragic mistake, not an intentional conspiracy. The author also addresses the inconsistencies in the ideas of conspiracy theorists who say the NSA tapes are fraudulent. Appendix 1 lists official US and Israeli reports of the incident, and Appendix 2 compares the content of the NSA audiotapes and the Israeli Air Force audiotapes, with transcripts.
