<DIV>Service science is a new trans-disciplinary field that touches on subjects such as computer science, engineering, management, business, and the social and cognitive sciences. Research in service science can be of great benefit to libraries, and information service outlets can be a tremendous field of research. The author demonstrates to information professionals why service science is relevant to them by explaining the value of research and presenting a trans-disciplinary approach to the traditional subject of library and information sciences.</div>
