This volume examines the various types of long-distance relationships between people from different countries or continents. The authors propose a concept of "world families" to examine the realities of these new types of families, and consider how to describe these developments; how love and families have become the point of intersection for global events; what happens when national frontiers and international legal systems, immigration laws, and the boundaries between host societies and minorities pass through the family; and what the implications for love are if it is at a distance. They describe mixed-nationality relationships, what happens to love when it becomes distant love (both geographically and culturally), how world families need to be understood from a cosmopolitan point of view, migrating for marriage, migrant mothers, why women gain power in world families, transnational families, baby tourism, a model of distant love, and how world families are pioneers of cosmopolitanism.
