This new two-volume textbook may be the largest handbook on echocardiography ever published. It also includes eight CD-ROM discs containing eight hours of interactive film clips which can be played only on a Java-enabled computer. The contributors are a highly international group of experts. The book provides a clinical overview of all forms of echocardiography in seven sections, including ultrasound, Doppler, speckle tracing, and three-dimensional echocardiography. Instrumentation is covered. MRI and cardiac computed tomography are considered. Chapters also cover detailed aspects of heart disease as diagnosable through imaging, anatomy and physiology of various heart diseases, and special issues in imaging for various populations including women, the elderly, and those undergoing lung ultrasound. There is a chapter on the future of cardiac imaging. The book is lavishly illustrated with echocardiography images and tracings, in both black and white and color.
