<div> Due to an ageing population in the western world, total hip arthroplasty (THA) is the most commonly performed orthopaedic procedure. THA is performed to replace or reconstruct a joint with an artificial joint (prosthesis). Hip prostheses may be made of metal, ceramic, plastic, or various combinations of these materials. Chapters in the first part of the book cover techniques from innovative surgeons, designs from multinational manufacturers, as well as provide information on improvements in technologies and biomaterials.
