When James Faraday, a young banker, meets with more professional success than he ever dreamed of, his life at home begins to change accordingly. He soon finds, however, that his growing family and array of properties now require as much work as his professional life, and there is not enough time in the world to handle both. James sets up his own business to deal with the issue; the Domestic Operatives Recruitment Group supplies butlers, maids, chauffeurs - even poets - to those in need of their services. Almost as soon as this is done, though, James realizes his problems are only just beginning. James finds himself entangled in a web of dishonest nannies, eccentric chefs and distracted assistants. With every new recruitment, he finds, his life only becomes more frantic and complicated. Will James hit on the solution for domestic bliss, or sink ever deeper into the quicksand of his responsibilities?
