This history is based in very large measure on his Modern British Jewry (1992, 1998), says Alderman, a sequel to Cecil Roth's 1941 History of the Jews in England, which effectively ended with the granting of full political equality to Jews in 1858. His own narrative ends in the late summer of 2013, so does not address the Ashkenazi chief rabbinate of Ephraim Mirvis, who succeeded in August 2013, or the appointment of Joseph Dwek as the senior rabbi of the Spanish and Portuguese Jews in 2014.
