The role of hobby birdwatchers, scientists, conservationists, policymakers, citizen activists, and newspapers is thoroughly explored, moving from gradual growing of awareness to intensive public struggles to the ultimate pivotal hearing and finally its public impact. The epilogue assesses what was special about Wisconsin and how it paved the way for national action on the DDT issue and growth of overall environmental awareness.
