The introductory textbook guides learners of Indonesian from the novice to an intermediate-high level of oral proficiency skills. It uses the communicative approach, so is appropriate for use in a class but not for individual study. Each of the eight lessons teaches several language functions or speech acts and enables students to communicate in a variety of social contexts. Students listen and interpret the dialogues presented at the beginning of each lesson, engage in interpersonal communication through role-play exercises and group work, and finally make presentations based on group discussions.
