Written from a perspective deeply embedded in the couture industry, this is a history of the portions of the fashion industry derived directly from French couture. This is the first translation into English of a book originally published in French. The book begins in 1920 and ends in 2012. Its vision of international fashion is world conquest by the French, rendered at lightning speed in the last pages. There is no discussion of the fashion and design history of other nations, men's fashion, or international fashion outside this context. The book is highly illustrated with black and white and color images, largely in the French female fetish style. The text is centered on the circle of Yves Saint Laurent.
