Arm knitting (in which big yarn loops are “cast on” just below the knitter’s wrists, then woven without needles to make chunky scarves and cowls) is the latest knitting craze. Knitting bloggers are talking about it nonstop, a quick search brings up dozens of YouTube and web tutorials, and big yarn companies such as Lion Brand and Bernat are catering to the trend with chunky new fibers and on-line tutorials and patterns. Especially popular among the teen and tween set, arm knit scarves and cowls knit up quickly (an hour or less) and require just a skein or two or of yarn.
