In this collection of 60 short essays, Canadian Des Kennedy writes very personally about gardening. Most of the pieces were first published in his “Earth Words” column in Garden Wise magazine, and about a dozen others in the Vancouver Globe and Mail. Kennedy has been nominated for the Stephen Leacock medal for Canadian humour writing three times, and a thread of levity runs throughout the essays. Though some are essentially funny stories, many of the essays have a contemplative tone and others strike a note of informal scholarliness.
