The eight tutorials in this handbook were written by members of IEEE working group K2 on gas insulated substations for AC high voltage equipment above 1 kV switchgear, disconnectors, and ground switches. The tutorials describe the components of both three-phase and single-phase enclosed gas insulated switchgear, gas and circuit breaker monitoring techniques, routine testing, the assembly of GIS equipment, the operation of a gas insulated substation, and maintenance procedures. Black and white photographs illustrate enclosures, surge arrestors, insulated bus duct installation and connection with overhead lines, circuit breaker placement, and compact substations.
