After an academic year together in Wassenaar, the Netherlands, comparing Babylonian and Greek medicine to find the rationales in both systems and similarities and differences, a group of Assyriologists, classicists, and historians of medicine presented papers at a June 2001 conference, most of which are presented here, along with two others for a total of 15. Their topics include early Greek and Babylonian diagnosis, towards an understanding of the rationale behind the Babylonian Diagnostic Handbook, Minoan and Mycenaean medicine and its Near Eastern contacts, the structure and genesis of some Hippocratic treatises, bloodletting in Babylonia, and Vindicianus' Gynaecia and theories on generation and embryology from the Babylonians up to Graeco-Roman times.
