Melchert presents a framework for the synthesis of behavioral healthcare. He brings together biological, psychological, and sociological aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and assessment, to form an overarching system for understanding human development, examining its functioning, and modifying behavior. This work represents a shift from the segmented approach of treating body and mind separately. Timothy P. Melchert holds a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and serves on many psychological journal editorial boards.
