Hariri cites the emergence of the circuit-based approach to brain, behavior, and psychopathology as the dominant research model in neuroscience, psychology, and psychiatry. He adopts that approach to understanding how the brain creates ordered perceptions of the world and translates these perceptions into ordered behavior which allows us to overcome challenges, maximize opportunities, and adapt to change in our environment. He examines disorder, abnormalities, and psychopathology as well.
