Thompson, a war reenactor and author, collects photos from reenactments of the German military during World War II from around the world. The photos depict what it was like for German soldiers as they fought and lived during the war, in relation to the infantry, armored cars, trucks, command cars, bicycles, horses, battle, leisure, transportation, communications, support personnel, chaplains, medical aspects and the Red Cross, field police, mines, bunkers, veterans, and various weapons.
