In an effort to develop an empirically based integrated framework, American and a few European contributors offer a detailed overview of theory, research, practice, and current issues in the assessment and treatment of Personality Disorders (PDs). There is special focus on the debates over PD categorization during the period 2005-2014. Part 1 provides four chapters on current issues in diagnosis and assessment; two chapters argue for the value of retaining personality categories and PD diagnoses. Part 2 describes research and assessment strategies, looking at areas such as quantitative modeling techniques, biological bases of PDs, and longitudinal studies. Part 3 presents ideas for moving toward integrated models of PDs that unite elements of psychodynamic, attachment theory, interpersonal, and cognitive-affective frameworks.
