Agathangelou (U. of Houston, Clear Lake, and director of the Global Change Institute, Cyprus) argues that gender, race, ethnicity and nationality are central to the desire economies created in the new global economy. Using examples from domestic and sex workers who moved from peripheral economies to Cyprus, Greece and Turkey, she demonstrates the connections between capital and the state in the exploitation of wage laborers.
