Psychologists argue that community risk management can be improved by combining what is already known from three areas of inquiry: the appraisal of violence risks, the study of decision making and clinical judgment, and the literature on treatment outcome and program evaluation. This literature has induced predictive, therapeutic, and supervisory nihilism among practitioners in the past, they say, but recent developments represent true progress, particularly when an integrative approach is taken.
