Saito begins with a rough outline of his proof of what has become known as Fermat's Last Theorem, then works through it in detail. Though the 1994 proof by Andrew Wiles and Richard Taylor is based on very natural ideas, he says, its framework is quite complex and it employs many different notions in mathematics.
