Drawn from the collections of the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the 142 examples of turquoise jewelry presented in this book consist of bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces by Navajo and Pueblo artists, including Hopi, Zuni, and Santo Domingo artists from the classical period through the 1930s to contemporary forms. It surveys the use of turquoise in the American Southwest in the past and present, its meaning to Native Americans in the region, traditional and innovative uses and meanings for the Pueblo and Navajo, and contemporary techniques.
