Seeking to transcend post-colonialist conceptualizations and find common ground in a broader understanding of la francophonie (French-speaking communities), Bandia aims to pave the way to a multi-dimensional approach to translation phenomena that reflects the pluralism characteristic of contemporary francophone culture. The essays spotlight the notion of translation in francophone literature and art by exploring the various incarnations of translation, either from a pragmatic perspective of linguistic appropriation or in terms of a broad metaphorical understanding of translation, allowing for conceptual frameworks that can account for the multiple and complex relations between the francophone writer or artist and the French language and culture.
