This volume examines second language acquisition by people who choose to move to another country due to their interest in its language and culture, arguing that the active choice of a destination and interest in the language affects acquisition positively. It contains seven essays by language scholars from Europe, the titles of which are as follows: lexical variation, lexical sophistication, and vocabulary use in Swedish cultural migrants; the language aptitude and native-likeness of Swedes living in Paris; the usage and perceptions of the tu/vous distinction by Anglophone cultural migrants in France; long-residency Swedish migrants in London; and the role of culture in second language acquisition, with discussion of Polish and Chinese migrants in Ireland, Polish-English bilingual migrants in the UK, and Chinese Spanish-language learners.
