Safranek presents readers with a critique of liberalism in which he examines the notion of individual freedom and the theoretical foundations of modern liberalism. He argues that liberal justifications for personal liberty are flawed based on the liberal disdain for morality as a basis for law, and that a revival of a pre-modern intellectual freedom that champions reason and virtue is necessary to safeguard the human desire for freedom.
