Communication and Aging takes into account how each person’s upbringing, life experiences, achievement of developmental milestones, and speech and language skills and knowledge throughout adulthood have an effect on communication in later life. It explores myths and misconceptions about communication and aging and several theories and perspectives, as well as an analysis of the brain systems that are affected during the aging process, with information on the diagnosis and treatment of each impairment and principles of evidence-based practice. The goal of the book is to provide information on the changes that occur in aging that affect communication and serve as an introduction and guide to the therapies and strategies for addressing communication challenges that help to bring about an enhanced quality of life for the aging individual.
