The opening chapter discusses the field of sex research with a focus on the contributing fields and research paradigms. Several chapters then discuss the physical biology of sexual characteristics, gender, and the relationship of gender and sex. Attraction, arousal, and an overview of the range of sexual behavior are discussed, followed by sexual relationships, fertility and pregnancy, contraception and abortion, sexuality at different ages, and biological and sociological explanations of sexual orientation. The end of the books turns toward paraphilias, pathologies, and the sticky issues of STDs, sexual violence and harassment, and commodification of sex.
