Çandar presents the first biography of her friend Dink, an Armenian intellectual of Turkey, a journalist and political activist who was targeted for his views and assassinated in front of his newspaper's offices in Istanbul in January 2007. He was the first Armenian of Turkey who spoke openly in defense of his people's minority rights and against the discriminatory policies of the Turkish state, she says, but also fought for the democratic rights of all citizens of Turkey, including the right to talk freely about the 1915 genocide of Anatolia's Armenians.
