Paul and Sridhar present students, academics, and researchers with an investigation of the contemporary state of the socio-economic and political divide between India’s Northern and Southern states. The authors have organized the main body of their text in six chapters devoted to studies of regional disparities within India, an investigation of the South’s performance in comparison to the North’s, an explanation of the North-South divide, an examination of the Southern region in comparison to the Northern region, and a variety of other related subjects. Samuel Paul is a former director of the Indian Institute of Management and Founder of the Public Affairs Centre, Bangalore. Kala Seetharam Sridhar is a faculty member of the Centre for Research in Urban Affairs and the Institute of Social and Economic Change, India.
