Editors Wolf and Bernhart present readers with a collection of academic essays and scholarly papers addressing the absence of objects typically under study, the use of silence in music and the absence of text in literature from an interdisciplinary viewpoint. The editors have organized the contributions that make up the main body of the text in three parts devoted to theoretical aspects of the study of silence and absence in literature and music, historical studies of its use, and word and music studies in the field.
